Our Mission

The Portland Community Football Club's (PCFC) mission is to provide access, belonging, and opportunity through high-quality soccer and wraparound services for low-income and historically underserved youth ages 6-18.

Too often, youth and families are forced to step away from organized and competitive sports because of the high costs associated with the pay-to-play model. This system hinders progress toward creating more accessible, diverse, and inclusive spaces when young people and their families are unable to participate.

Success grows when access is open, belonging is universal, and opportunities are shared.

At PCFC, we are challenging the traditional pay-to-play model by turning to our communities for support—locally in the Portland region, statewide, nationally, and even globally. Through these partnerships, we advance our mission of providing access, belonging, and opportunity for all youth.

Our organization has always prioritized affordability, and in 2025, we are taking it a step further. PCFC will no longer charge seasonal or annual registration fees. We will continue to provide free uniforms to all players, regardless of household income. Additionally, if players need cleats, shin guards, or other necessary soccer gear, we will work with our community partners to ensure they are fully equipped and ready to play.

We also know, there are more than just the cost’s and equipement to sport and why we acknowledge and strive to work towards a more equitable and just sport:

  • We address language and cultural barriers by providing translated documents and communication in languages like Spanish and Vietnamese, as well as offering regular phone check-ins to ensure clear communication. We avoid relying solely on email, ensuring all families, regardless of technology access, have equal opportunities to participate. Additionally, we recruit coaches who reflect our communities, and who can assist with in-person translation. We also team up with culturally specific organizations to further support our mission.

  • Transportation barriers often prevent many youths from participating in high-quality soccer programs. To eliminate these barriers, PCFC helps parents find transportation solutions, such as carpooling. We understand that parents with multiple or non-traditional work hours may struggle to get their kids to practices and games, so we support their participation in any way we can.

  • We know there is Socio-economic disparity across our region, and PCFC realized in 2020 that the gap only increased. We launched our Family Service Program to provide wraparound services that support families beyond soccer. Our "whole child" approach includes nutritional support, social-emotional care, mentorship, educational assistance, and community referrals. These services help ensure that participants and their families stay healthy, build confidence, plan for the future, and experience a sense of belonging.
