Coach Rebecca
This month, we are highlighting one of our incredible coaches, Rebecca Dong!
Rebecca, known for spending her free time on the field, whether that's indoors, outdoors, or on a futsal court, has been sharing her passion and love of the game over the past year as a PCFC Coach. Started out as an assistant coach with our 2012s (U-10) and now is becoming a Coach Mentor transitioning to co-coaching our 2010 team (U-12).
Rebecca shared this message about why she came to coach at PCFC:
“When I heard about PCFC and what they are trying to create I immediately knew I wanted to be involved and was really excited to have the opportunity to coach for PCFC. It’s really special to be part of a club that is so openly inclusive and is so focused on providing a positive environment for players.”
As many of us have had, and still have, coaches, mentors, and supporters in our corner that have lifted us up, given us wisdom, and a space to be heard and listened to. We know the benefits these individuals have on us, and why we strive to provide the same for our youth athletes.
We asked Rebecca her final thoughts and anything else she’d like to mention to you:
“Mentoring is important because we [coaches] are in a position to help empower our players on and off the field. There are so many life lessons that can be learned from sports. We provide our players with the support and skills to believe in themselves, and I think that's the most important thing a coach can do. And I will end this by asking - will you help PCFC raise 10K this fall to support our Coach Mentor training program? It gives us the tools and understanding to create a more positive and safe space for our players. "
