PCFC Youth Shine at #ElevateTheNext Clinic Hosted by The Black Women’s Player Collective
Portland, OR – This month, Portland Community Football Club (PCFC) had the honor of participating in an unforgettable #ElevateTheNext Clinic, powered by the Black Women’s Player Collective (BWPC). The event brought professional athletes and youth together for a day of skill-building, mentorship, and community.
Youth athletes were joined by pros including Nicole Payne of the Portland Thorns FC—alongside professional players Kayla Mills and Jamia Fields. Together, they led engaging sessions and inspired players with their stories and support.
“Something I love about soccer is it’s helped me connect with my family and friends in ways I couldn’t imagine,” said one PCFC youth athlete.
BWPC is a non-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization created by the Black players in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) to advance opportunities for Black girls in sport and beyond. Their aim is to elevate the image, value and representation of Black women as athletes and leaders across industries. Ultimately, establishIng a network of support that expands access to diverse career paths before and after playing. Through education, mentorship and community development they aim to provide Black girls with direct access to soccer at every level.
“This is what access, belonging, and opportunity is all about.” Said Jerika Ferguson, PCFC Executive Director
PCFC extends deep gratitude to BWPC, Sport Oregon and Adidas and the US Soccer Foundation and all who made this event possible. We’re proud to be part of a movement that invests in the next generation of leaders through sport.
